tinypng is a small, open-source library for losslessly shrinking PNG files. It's not related to the website . PNG is an excellent format for saving photos, but it can also be quite large. Tinypng fixes this problem by taking your PNG and slowly shrinking it down to a much smaller size with minimal reduction in quality. I use tinypng because it usually shrinks my images by around 10%. You can check out their GitHub repo or see if their library works on the command line with the following command: python -m pytest tests/tinypng.py --capture=no --name=tests_pythonThere are plenty of great reasons why you should take advantage of tinypng whenever possible. For starters, it can save you a lot of space. If you've ever tried to send an image over Bittorrent, for example, you'll know how quickly your image can grow. Even if you're only sending the image to people who also use tinypng, then their images will likely compress well as well. Another great benefit comes in the form of quality assurance. Tinypng is intended to be used with your original PNG file, which means that any compression artifacts will still exist in your final result . The only time that tinypng is guaranteed not to cause any problems is when it makes no changes at all . Therefore, if you're having problems with your images, then we'd recommend trying tinypng on them before more drastic measures. Tinypng is open-source and is provided under the MIT license. The source code can be found on their GitHub page, and the website itself has a link to more information . It supports all three major operating systems.Format: Plain text License: MIT Format: Plain text License: Wikisource license Format: Plain text , json , csv, xml , or yaml (if specified) or a rb file containing ruby code that outputs a hash in one of the formats above.
