Ek Villain is a 2014 Indian thriller-drama film which revolves around the criminal underworld in Mumbai. The film starred Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Mohit Ahlawat and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.Directed by Mohit Suri and Produced by Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions, Ek Villain was released worldwide on July 24, 2014. The film was released on 300 screens on the opening day and earned 300 crores at the box office. It is on third spot list of highest earning Bollywood films of 2014 after Dilwale and Bajrangi Bhaijaan .Ek Villain had a decent domestic opening with nett working of 50 crores and worldwide gross income of over 750 crores.It opened to very positive reviews from critics and had some noted performances from lead actors Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh. It received four nominations at the 58th Filmfare awards, notably for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Sidharth Malhotra) and Special Jury Award for Mohit Ahlawat. Mohit Ahlawat's performance in the film earned him much critical success and earned him Filmfare Nomination for best supporting actor. The film was remade in Kannada as "Ugramm" (2015) starring Aditya and Shraddha Srinath in lead roles. It was also remade in Bengali as Tumi Je Amar (2017) starring Dev & Koel Mallick Ayan (Sidharth Malhotra), an introvert rich kid,is engaged to Aarti (Shraddha Kapoor), an extrovert girl who was earlier engaged to Rajveer Singhania (Mohit Ahlawat). Ayan’s father, Rohit Singhania (Manoj Bajpai), has just passed away. Aarti's father Sir Virender Singhania (Om Puri) who is also the CEO of Sir Virender Singhania wants to ask money from Aarti to Sir Virender. Sir Virender asks Rohit for the same amount of money he was giving before his death. Aarti's father agrees on the condition that Ayan doesn’t have to pay anything upfront. Ayan and Aarti get married and Ayan finds out that his father is in debt. Ayan finds an envelope in his room which was kept by Aarti's father for him. The envelope contains a letter from his father telling him about the amount of money he is supposed to pay as interest to Sir Virender as penalty as he couldn’t pay all the money before his death. Ayan confronts Sir Virender that he didn’t want to marry his daughter but wants to marry someone else.
